About Being a Pal Temporary Client companies need temporaries for a variety of reasons. They may be short staffed because of employee vacations, sick/maternity leave, previous layoffs, special projects, or seasonal changes in workload. They may have a policy to keep a core staff and supplement with temporary employees. Being a temporary involves going to a variety of locations where physical accommodations and duties vary. Duties can vary, as can the physical demands of the assignments. Be sure to let your coordinator know if you have need for any special accomodations, or whether you can fulfill all the position's requirements. Your coordinator will give you all the details about an assignment including its length, rate of pay and all duties and skills required for the position. At that time, you should ask whatever questions you have and bring up any concerns or conflicts which may interfere with the assignment. If you are unable to perform any of the tasks of the assignment with or without accommodation, please inform your coordinator. After you accept the assignment your coordinator will give you the exact location and the name of the person to report to. Once an agreement is made between you and your coordinator, you will be confirmed in with the client.

About your availability Working temporary can be very beneficial during your job search. You will see a variety of business environments and often get the inside line on job openings. The time between permanent jobs will be well spent sharpening your skills and making contacts. If you are new in town, temporary work will give you insight on businesses in the area and will allow you to meet people. Sometimes temporary assignments turn into full-time jobs. You never know if that one day assignment could turn out to be a home. There are times when a client will want us to find someone they could consider putting on their staff. This is a temp-to-staff assignment. You may be asked to interview with the client. Treat this as any other interview; however, negotiations are done through Pal. You start the job as a temporary, and remain a temporary for a certain period of time. After this period, both you and the client can assess if it's a good fit. If not, you can part company without ill feelings and keep a steady work record.
More and more companies across Canada are filling their open positions through the temporary to staff approach. It saves them time, money, and headaches - so many positions are never advertised in other ways. Don't overlook this method of finding the position you've been looking for!
We strive for excellence not only in fulfilling our clients' needs, but in helping our employees fulfill theirs. Remember, your coordinator is there to address your questions and concerns. We hope to build a mutually respectful relationship with all our temporaries. To Pal, you are an individual. We care about you and hope to build a rewarding relationship with you. |
